Introduction

This unit:

  • looks at the important links between climate change and gender equality, and
  • provides examples of actions taken to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the past that can serve as ideas for the present.

 

Outcomes

On completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • discuss the importance of gender in mitigating climate change and developing climate resiliency.

  • Best practices in climate change mitigation

 

Terminology

Mitigation:  Actions designed to reduce the effects or impact of something. In the current context, it refers to reducing the causes of climate change, particularly the accumulation of greenhouse gases (GHGs), which are emitted into the atmosphere, or the actions taken to enhance the absorption of GHGs.

Best practices:  Guidelines based on examples of successful actions that have been taken to reduce climate changes and that would produce similar good outcomes if followed.
