CEMCA advisory council meets in New Delhi

Participants of CEMCA Advisory Council meeting with Prof Asha KanwarCOL’s regional centre in Asia, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), held the 22nd annual meeting of its Advisory Council in New Delhi in December 2022 to review progress and generate new ideas for collaboration with member countries.

Professor Asha Kanwar chaired the meeting, and participants included official representatives of the education ministries in Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, India, Malaysia, Maldives and Sri Lanka, as well as vice chancellors of open universities in Bangladesh and India. In her opening remarks, Professor Kanwar highlighted the challenges that have emerged because of the Covid-19 pandemic, such as lost learning opportunities, inequalities and psycho-social concerns, as well as the impacts of climate change. CEMCA Director Dr B. Shadrach stated that despite the challenges confronted during the pandemic, the organisation had been able to reach out to a significant number of learners. Ongoing activities included supporting higher education institutions to implement OER policies and helping enhance pedagogical skills among teachers/trainers in Commonwealth Asia.
